Generally speaking, I am a person of little patience. No one ever thought I'd be able to sit and craft for hours on end. However, that is really my way of escaping, of expressing myself and of growing as an individual.
It all started when I was a little girl.... my mother was extremely talented in a craft sense. She sewed, did needlework, embroidery and cross stitch. She knitted, crocheted, made rugs and wreaths. She made floral arrangements and Christmas stockings. In more recent years, she has focused on paper crafts, specifically hand made greeting cards. I sat, in essence, for years at her elbow, watching her work, asking questions, observing her mistakes and fixes, frustrations and triumphs. Until one day, I told her I wanted to try doing something, too.
My first craft project was a set of stamped cross stitched napkins. I was so proud of them - and so was my mother. For a first attempt, they came out pretty good. I still have them and every now and again, I pull them out to remind myself that I can try new projects and if they don't look great at first, I need to just keep at it so I can get better.
Several years later, I got into making hand made greeting cards, too. Again, the first ones I made were pretty pathetic - but I was proud of them because they were the best I could do at the time.
I have recently started making scrapbooks, mostly as gifts for family members so far, and have found that the cross over from making cards to scrapbooking isn't such a stretch. The basic techniques are the same and just about all the tools are the same as well. So I became a paper crafts instructor at my local craft store and have launched into even more projects and crafts. I LOVE IT! I am having so much fun and my creative juices are flowing like never before.
So stay tuned to see what I'll come up with next....
