Reds -- Pierced and Stitched
$46.00
Get ready for Valentine's Day with these red red earrings. The earrings hang about 1.5".
1" copper disks that I fold form and enamel with many different layers and shades of red enamels. The copper is pierced and then stitched with sterling silver wire. Then I add a red seed bead and make the ear wires from sterling silver especially for these earrings.
Fold-forming allows you to take a hard cold piece of metal and make it look like something soft and organic.
Enameling is the art of fusing glass to metal. Enamel (glass) is crushed to a powder like the consistency of fine sand. This powder is then applied to a metal surface. Then the piece is heated either in a kiln, or with a hand-held torch. I prefer using a torch because I like to watch the enamel melt! More coats, normally different colors, can be applied. Sometimes 10-20 firings are required to bring about the desired results.
