reSupplies: Zero Impact Crafting

reSupplies™ are a great way to protect the environment:
Why throw away perfectly good stuff that another person needs?

We help people recycle by matching things that are perfectly good with crafters that can use them.

Perhaps somebody has purchased a sheet of stickers but only used a few of them. Wouldn't it be great if another person could use the rest? Perhaps you have a used rubber stamp you no longer need and that somebody else would enjoy? Rather than throwing these things away we'll help you find them a new home.

reSupplying is ecological because it saves our landfills and utilizes things which have already been manufactured. A crafter using reSupplies is a zero-impact crafter because they are using nearly-discarded items that took no energy or resources to make.

Rainforest Conservation

ShopHandmade's environmental policy is simple and straightforward:
We're here to protect endangered rainforests.

The clearing of forests produces more CO₂ than all cars, trucks, and SUVs combined. Protecting endangered rainforests is the fastest, cheapest, and easiest way to help the environment and to reduce our carbon footprint. (See the short movie on this by clicking here.)

We pay to offset the carbon footprint of everything sold via our site. We pay to protect a minimum of 25 square feet of rainforest for every item sold through ShopHandmade. We pay for this--it doesn't cost buyers or sellers anything. That 25 square feet sequesters the same amount of CO₂ as was emitted in producing the average handmade item; including the raw materials and shipping the materials to and from the crafter and buyer.

Rainforest Protection Made Easy

Just like our reSupplies goes one step further, many of our stores also goes a step further. A big step, actually.

When a store lists an item they have the option of increasing the amount of rainforest protected from 25 square feet to 100 or even 250 square feet. We make it inexpensive and easy. We handle the paperwork and the accounting, and we combine these micro-payments into meaningful blocks of money that go to certified, top-rated conservation organizations. Presently we are supporting Conservation International, one of the most successful preservation organizations in the world.
